Concerning understanding received, and the danger of spreading it too quickly

12:1

After these things, my wife spoke to me,

saying,

"I believe I understand."

12:2

She said,

"Shame cannot be reasoned away.

It must be unlearned."

12:3

"And what is clothed by fear

cannot heal

while it remains hidden."

12:4

She came with me to Christopher,

clothed as before,

not to imitate,

but to test her heart.

12:5

She spoke plainly, saying,

"I believe that only by removing what shame demands

can shame lose its hold."

12:6

Christopher listened

and did not interrupt.

12:7

Then he said,

"You have understood with your heart."

12:8

"And understanding that comes this way

cannot be carried by another's words."

12:9

She said,

"Then let me teach others."

12:10

But Christopher raised his hand gently

and said,

"No."

12:11

"For your words cannot teach their hearts

any more than mine could teach yours."

12:12

He said,

"Guide by example,

as I guided you."

12:13

"Let each discover truth

without being pushed toward it."

12:14

She bowed her head,

not in obedience,

but in recognition.

12:15

Once home,

my wife removed her clothes for the first time,

and chose to remain nude

unless weather demanded otherwise.
